"Why do you need batting till No.8 with this top 3?" - Former India captain slams team management despite historic win in IND vs WI 2026 2nd ODI

Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth believes the win in the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati proves batting depth is unnecessary. Chasing a seemingly insurmountable 406, the Men in Blue pulled off a record chase in the 44th over with eight wickets in hand.

It was India's highest successful ODI run chase and second-highest overall in the 50-over format.

Talking about India's incredible batting, Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel (7:40):

He added:

Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma added 255 off just 158 deliveries for the first wicket, sealing the West Indies' fate.

"This is a different level of cricket that he's playing" - Kris Srikkanth on Shubman Gill

Kris Srikkanth hailed Shubman Gill for his breathtaking double century in India's record run chase in the second ODI against the West Indies. After scoring a century in the series opener, the Indian skipper continued his incredible ODI form with a second double century.

He added:

Gill has been in phenomenal ODI form this year, averaging almost 128 at a strike rate of 119.51 in 11 games.
