KS Bharat retires from international cricket after seven Tests. He thanks family, BCCI, Andhra Cricket Association and mentors, vows to continue in coaching.
India wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him play seven Tests for the country. The Andhra batter made his Test debut in 2023 against Australia in Nagpur and played his last red-ball international against England in Vizag, scoring 221 runs in 12 innings at an average of 20.09.
In an emotional statement, Bharat described playing for India as ‘the greatest honour’ of his life and reflected on the sacrifices, resilience, and support that shaped his journey.
“With a proud heart and sense of gratitude, I announce my retirement from international cricket," Bharat wrote. “To play for my country has been the greatest honour of my life. This journey of mine has demanded great resilience and strength, but the honour to represent India in Tests was worth every moment."
The 31-year-old paid tribute to his family, crediting his parents and sister for standing by him throughout a journey that spanned more than two decades. He also thanked the BCCI, Andhra Cricket Association, coaches, managers, teammates and ground staff who contributed to his growth as a cricketer.
Bharat reserved special mention for several key figures in his career, including Virat Kohli, who handed him his IPL debut, and Rohit Sharma, under whose captaincy he made his Test debut. He also expressed gratitude to former India head coach Rahul Dravid for guiding him from the India ‘A’ setup to the national side.
Looking ahead, Bharat made it clear that while his international chapter has ended, his association with the sport will continue.
“My journey with BCCI and Test cricket may have come to an end, but my journey in the game continues," he said. “I will keep playing, contributing, and giving back to cricket by guiding, mentoring and coaching the next generation."
“I love India and I love cricket. Thank you for everything," he concluded.
